The Dude's Story
Dude Chilling Sculpture
The ‘the Dude’ of Dude Chilling ( aka Guelph ) Park, in Vancouver Mount Pleasant, is a legacy of the 1991 Brewery Creek Art Exposition. This cedar wood sculpture created by BC artist Michael Dennis inspired a secondary piece of ‘guerilla art’ the Dude Chilling Park sign in 2012. Although the name was not officially changed, for some it was and will always be.
Over the past 25 years, the wood of the original sculpture has deteriorated considerably. Responding to this, the Vancouver Park Board has worked with the artist to remove the sculpture and prepare it for casting in permanent bronze, to replace the original.
The Mount Pleasant Community Centre Association (MPCCA), a registered charity and supporter of the original placement has agreed to handle the necessary fundraising campaign.
So let’s #SavetheDude.
The Christopher Foundation has generously offered to match $1 for $1, $ 30,000 upon the successful raising of that sum towards the successful completion of the project.
Donations can be directed to the MPCCA located at #1 Kingsway ( Front Counter or by mail ). Receipts will be issued for donations of $ 10 or more.
In addition, donations can be made on-line utilizing the Vancouver-based CHIMP.net -- selecting Giving Group ‘Dude Chilling’.
And all going well, our ‘street loonie and toonie’ donation opportunities will cross your path so that you too can help #SavetheDude.
