Vancouver Municipal Election All Candidates Meeting set for September 23, 2026 at Mount Pleasant Community Centre

Vancouver, BC – On September 23rd, 2026, voters will have an opportunity to see, hear, and compare candidates for both the Vancouver Park Board and City Council who are  running in our Municipal Election. The event will be held at Mount Pleasant Community Centre, located at 1 Kingsway, starting at 7:00 PM.

This all candidates meeting is a key opportunity for members of the public, and the media, to hear candidates discuss their platforms, respond directly to questions from community members, and present their vision.

The event, hosted by the Mount Pleasant Community Centre Association in collaboration with the Strathcona Community Centre Association is open to the public and is expected to cover a wide range of issues important to Vancouverites. ]]> PETITION TO SUPPORT & FUND MOUNT PLEASANT OUTDOOR POOL Mount Pleasant Outdoor Pool was demolished in 2009 with a Commitment to replace it, and was included in the Vancouver Park Board’s Aquatic Strategy in 2019, after a 3 year consultation, but it is still not funded! With the increasingly hot and dry summers outdoor pools are needed more than ever. Vancouver is severely deficient in outdoor pools compared to other municipalities in Canada. Currently the only full-sized outdoor pools are on the north side on waterfronts not easily accessible to the majority of residents. The centre and south of the city bear most of the deficit in outdoor pools. This is not equitable! We are disappointed that Mount Pleasant’s outdoor pool did not receive any funding in the 2027-2030 Capital Plan. The current position of the board seems to be that community outdoor swimming pools are not a priority! Mount Pleasant Community Centre will hold an all candidates debate on September 23, 2026 prior to the Municipal Election. Please attend and ask candidates about their positions and policies on a Mount Pleasant pool.

Mount Pleasant Outdoor Pool was included in the Vancouver Park Board’s Aquatic Strategy in 2019, but is still not funded and is not in the 2027-2030 Capital Plan!

We are petitioning the Vancouver Park Board and City of Vancouver to work with us to identify possible sources of additional funding in order to plan and design a basic 25 metre outdoor pool in Mount Pleasant, and get a start on the construction of our much missed outdoor pool!

The MPCC Food Security Program was created to address a growing demand for food in our local community. As we grow and evolve, we use these four principles to guide our decision making and inform the program’s development.

  • Create a welcoming and low barrier environment to offer dignified, immediate, equitable, and routine access to healthy, quality meals.
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive, diverse, and engaged community of staff, patrons, and volunteers to positively impact and serve the community’s most vulnerable.
  • Cultivate opportunities for inter-generational community connection and education through food preparation, meal sharing, and volunteering.
  • Increase awareness and understanding around various systemic challenges that contribute to food insecurity and homelessness.

Based on these four principles our goals and objectives are to:

  • Involve and engage community members and partners to bring awareness to and reduce stigmas around homelessness, mental health, and
    addiction.
  • Work to be environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly by reducing food waste, limiting single use and disposal service items, composting and recycling regularly and responsibly, and using second hand items where feasible.
  • Build and expand partnerships with various service agencies to provide quality resources and referrals to meet needs outside of our program’s scope and to expand our community’s network.
  • Design an operationally sustainable, scalable, and replicable program model. Support, coach, and champion the adoption and expansion of food security programs within our catchment area and across our networks.
