Temporary Part Time Position: October 2025 – August 2026
Hours: 20hrs/week
Schedule: Mon, Tues, Wed & Fri 9:00am – 2:00 pm, with some weekend and evening shifts when operationally needed. These hours may change slightly to accommodate food donation pick-ups.
Wage: $27/hour + 4% in lieu of benefits
Position Overview:
The Community Food Program Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting marginalized community members—including those who are homeless, nearly homeless, or struggling to make ends meet—by managing a small kitchen that serves 300–500 individuals weekly. This position is responsible for meal planning, food preparation, volunteer coordination, donation management, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety in accordance with Vancouver Coastal Health guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Kitchen Operations
• Plan and prepare three nutritious meals per week (Soup and Sandwich, baked goods) for 100–125 people.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety.
• Label and store food properly
• Organize and maintain a food pantry; track inventory and discard expired items.
• Process perishable food donations and store appropriately.
Volunteer Management
• Recruit, train, schedule, and support a diverse team of volunteers.
• Recognize and utilize volunteers’ strengths to enhance kitchen operations.
• Foster a respectful and inclusive environment for all volunteers.
Community Engagement
• Build relationships with external organizations to bring resources to the community.
• Coordinate special events and outreach initiatives during food service.
Administrative Duties
• Maintain accurate records and statistics.
• Write donation letters and apply for small food-related grants.
• Reconcile monthly receipts and cash float with the bookkeeper.
• Follow all risk management and safety protocols as outlined by the City of Vancouver and the Mount Pleasant Community Centre Association.
• Respond to first aid needs and document, report unusual incidents and document.
Qualifications
•Formal cooking training and Post Secondary School is an asset but not required.
• Food Safe Level 1 certification.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Clear and current Police Information Check.
• Occupational First Aid Level 1 (or equivalent).
• Strong cooking skills with a passion for preparing nutritious meals.
• Experience working with and managing volunteers.
• Understanding and compassion for marginalized communities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong leadership, planning, and time management skills.
• Comfortable using Excel; Canva experience is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills (online and in-person).
