We are seeking an enthusiastic, driven, and responsible individual to provide program planning, supervision, and direct leadership for the Mount Pleasant Summer Youth Leadership Camp. This summer position focuses on creating youth leadership and capacity-building activities, including local trips and recreational activities. The successful candidate will lead the camp team, plan and deliver activities, and oversee leaders and volunteers. They should be team-oriented, able to engage in age-appropriate activities and conversations with participants and support the development of leadership skills in both participants and staff.
Job Duties:
• Train, supervise, and provide guidance to camp leaders and volunteers, fostering communication, collaboration, and feedback to staff, children, and families.
• Plan, schedule, and promote themed day camp activities, including out-trips.
• Administer program operations, including attendance, registration, distribution and reconciliation of funds, purchasing supplies, booking activities, and monitoring staff hours.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of children, staff, and volunteers by following the risk management procedures and centre protocols of the City of Vancouver and the Mount Pleasant Community Centre Association.
• Maintain positive relationships with participants, families, and staff while collaborating with the City of Vancouver’s ACCESS and Inclusion team to support campers with additional needs.
• Provide mentorship, direction, and support to junior staff and volunteers.
Qualifications:
• Previous experience working with youth (9-14 years)
• Proficiency with email and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher), including working knowledge of Excel for budgeting and basic statistical tasks.
• Strong leadership, organizational and planning skills
• Ability to be flexible in adapting activities to suit individual and group dynamics
• Excellent problem-solving skills, communication and interaction skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Conditions of Employment:
• A current and successful Police Information Check is required
• Valid First Aid/CPR Level C certification is required, or a willingness to obtain it before the program start date. (Applicants must attach a copy of their First Aid to their application)
• As this position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and be available to work for the full duration of the program dates.
• Preference will be given to candidates pursuing a career in recreation, education, social services, or the social sciences.
• Formal training or post-secondary education in a related field is an asset but not mandatory
Regular Shifts: Monday to Friday 9am-4:30pm. Camp runs from 10:00am-3:30pm for 8 weeks; 30-35hrs/week
Manager Training: May 2026 (Specific Date TBD, must be available)
Citywide Day camp Training: June 2026 (Specific Date TBD, must be available)
MPCC In-service Training: June 6th, 2026, 2pm-5pm
Wage: 23.23 + 4% in lieu of benefits
Start Date: June 2026 (Date TBD)
